Happy Friday and welcome back to The SK Way! I cannot believe that today is already July 10th! With summer in full swing, I wanted to talk about an important topic in today’s post – hydration! It can be difficult to stay hydrated in the summer when we are all more active and spending more time in the sun than usual. Today, I will be sharing 5 tips to help you stay healthy, happy, and hydrated in the summer heat ๐
TIP #1: Drink a Glass of Water in the Morning:
Whether you feel it or not, we all wake up dehydrated in the morning. If you think about it, you just went eight hours or so without any water at all! In addition to replenishing your fluids, drinking a glass after waking up in the morning helps to jump-start your system, flush out toxins, and help with digestion! This small and simple act can help you start your day on the right foot feeling great!
TIP #2: Use a Cute Water Bottle or Tumbler:
I am usually good about hydrating throughout the day, but I truly believe that I drink more when I have a fun water bottle or cup to use! It might sound silly, but having something that you enjoy using will cause you to reach for it more and therefore drink more water. My go-to choice while I have been home is my Lilly Pulitzer tumbler (similar one linked here) that I received for my birthday around freshman year of high school. I recently found it when we cleaned out our kitchen cabinets and it has been a nice pop of color on my desk while I study for the MCAT! I also love my 16oz Corckcicle water bottle. It is perfect for the beach since it keeps your drinks cold for 25 hours!
TIP #3: Add Fruit to Your Water:
If you are someone who struggles to drink enough water, infusing fruit can help add some flavor! My personal favorite choice is lemon and cucumber slices (especially in that morning glass!) The combination is so refreshing and I could not recommend it enough! I know there are plenty more options out there so have some fun experimenting with different fruits and find what kind of flavors you like!
TIP #4: Limit Caffeine Intake:
This is a good tip regardless of the season but is especially important during the summer months as beverages like coffee and tea can be very dehydrating. If you choose to have your morning and/or afternoon pick-me-up, be sure to drink water before and after to ensure that you are properly hydrated!
TIP #5: Eat Hydrating Foods:
Foods such as watermelon, cantaloupe, peaches, cucumbers, tomatoes, and celery all have a very high water content. All of these options are great to include in summer recipes so this is a very easy way to stay hydrated. They are perfect for snacks, as a side, or adding into a summer salad for something different and refreshing!
I hope you enjoyed these hydration tips! Although they were primarily geared towards the summertime, these tricks also apply year-round! There are so many health benefits to staying hydrated so if this is one of your summer goals, I hope you were able to find some new simple strategies to help make the process a bit easier ๐ Thank you so much for reading and I will see you on Monday for my next post!
