Recently Read || vol. 8

Welcome back to the blog! I am so excited to share another edition of “Recently Read”. I really enjoyed the last handful of books I read at the end of the summer and am slowly working my way through my bookshelf. I have three recommendations to share with you today and have so many more on the way – I hope you enjoy!

  1. It’s Not Summer Without You by Jenny Han: I started TSITP series this summer and I am so glad that I did! It was the perfect lighthearted summer series and exactly what I needed while relaxing on the beach! I liked how Han included Jeremiah’s perspective in the second book, giving more context to the relationship between Belly and the Fisher boys. I thought book one set the scene really well and gave us a lot of background information while book two really hit the ground running with a little bit of suspense. Like book one, I read this in about three days and couldn’t wait to read the third one!

  1. We’ll Always Have Summer: This is the third book in The Summer I Turned Pretty series. I started and finished this book all in the same day! A big twist happens pretty early on followed by some drama that holds your attention throughout. I thought the ending was very satisfying and the perfect way to bring things full circle. Overall, I am very glad that I read the books before watching the show! There were a lot of changes made in season two, but it was fun to compare and contrast from the books. I felt all of the characters were casted well, but I had a much bigger appreciation after reading the books.

  1. The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearse: I had seen this on the “Reese’s Book Club” table at Barnes & Noble countless times before I finally purchased it – seriously what was I waiting for?! This was yet another binge read that I finished in about three days. There is suspense from page one and the pace just keeps on quickening. It was truly one of those books that you cannot put down. If you like a suspenseful mystery I think you would absolutely love this one! It tells the story of detective Elin Warner as she travels to Switzerland for her brother’s engagement party. The party is to take place at a renovated turberculosis hospital-turned five-star ski resort in the Swiss Alps. From the moment Elin steps on the premises she can sense that something feels “off” but cannot immediately place it. As the weekend progresses, things go wrong and the plot takes a dark turn. As soon as you think you’ve figured it out, another twist comes, keeping you on the edge of your seat! The ending leaves you on a major cliff-hanger and I cannot wait to read Pearse’s second book, titled The Retreat!

Thank you so much for reading!
