One of my favorite parts of back to school season was always shopping for new pieces and finding ways to transition some of my favorite outfits into early fall. For this week’s post, I wanted to share some of my wardrobe essentials that will help you seamlessly carry your summer wardrobe well into September. Whether you are a student, a teacher, or working a 9-5, I think all of these basic options can be beneficial in your outfit rotations – I hope you enjoy!
Outerwear
Layers are key this time of year! Here in NJ, September is still pretty warm. Most buildings will still have their air conditioning on, so bringing a jean jacket, cardigan, or sweater blazer with you will ensure that you stay warm while still having the option to remove it if you get too hot. I also love to style blazers as lightweight jackets as the temperatures start to cool down.
Tops
Long sleeved shirts, button-downs, and lightweight sweaters will be your best friends! You can easily layer them to create different looks, but these pieces are a great way to transition from your short sleeves and tank tops before breaking out the heavy sweaters. I personally love having a chambray button down and the J.Crew Factory Teddie Sweaters on hand!
Bottoms
As it comes time to put away the shorts and sundresses, it’s always nice to have a good pair of white jeans. I wear mine all throughout the summer, but I feel like white jeans or pants can also be a great early fall option. If you still want to wear dresses and skirts, I recommend opting for tan/camel or navy colors that are a little bit more autumnal.
Shoes & Accessories
My usual transitional shoe is a classic pair of Sperrys or a slip-on canvas sneaker. If you are a teacher or in a more business casual setting, I would opt for a loafer, a mule, (my personal fav!), or a ballet flat. These shoes are so versatile and you can easily style them with any outfit. In terms of accessories, I like having a leather tote bag on hand to replace my canvas boat totes and other summer bags. For a smaller option, I’m obsessing over anything straw and recently purchased the cutest crossbody bag from Amazon that I cannot wait to use!
Thank you so much for reading! What are your transitional wardrobe staples?
