Happy July! Now that summer (and the humidity!) is in full swing, it feels like the perfect time to share my round-up of wardrobe essentials for the season! I wanted to be very intentional about the pieces I chose to share in this post. My goal, always, is to help you curate a classic & timeless wardrobe that you’ll wear for years to come, but I also want to encourage you to build upon the basics – things you likely already have in your closet that you can style in a variety of ways to create different looks throughout the summer season. My hope is that this post will help provide you with some inspiration for different ways to style the pieces you may already own, and if you are in the market for a new piece or two, to give you some honest insight into where I feel it’s worth it to invest! I hope you enjoy!
tops

On hot, busy summer days, it’s essential to have a few go-to staples on hand starting with the very basic but very necessary white tee. Whether you wear it alone or as a layering piece, this is by far the piece I reach for most often when building an outfit. A solid ribbed tank is a close second! I love pairing these with jean shorts or dressing it up with a maxi skirt or a fun pair of linen pants to keep you cool and comfortable. A classic button down is a wardrobe staple all throughout the year, but I love this cotton gauze option for the summer months. It is the perfect casual piece that can take you from an early morning coffee run, to a cozy day at home, or even to the beach or pool. I also love the idea of adding some “fun tops” to the rotation for date nights, or for those times when you want to switch it up from the basic t-shirt and shorts look. This lace tank was a recent purchase of mine and I cannot wait to style it! And of course, it wouldn’t be summer without a quintessential flag sweater!
bottoms

“Summer whites” has definitely been a theme in my wardrobe lately – whether it is a pair of linen pants, linen shorts, a breezy maxi skirt, or a comfortable pair of jeans, each of these pieces can be styled countless different ways throughout the summer! You can never go wrong with boxer shorts which are my go-to’s for long work from home days, and a quality pair of jean shorts which never fail!
dresses

I never used to consider myself a “dress girl” until I moved to Virginia a couple of years ago! The humidity here is no joke so an easy, breezy dress is often the easiest thing to reach for when the temperatures are consistently above 90. My personal favorites are active dresses for running errands, cleaning, or those days when it is just too hot to wear anything else haha! I also love little “throw on and go” dresses that are perfect for everyday or casual summer gatherings. This linen dress from Quince looks so flattering! I also love this cotton gauze swing dress from Quince that I have gotten so much wear out of recently! It’s also nice to have some maxi dresses on hand – a more casual option for church, brunch, family photos, etc. And a slightly more formal, but still versatile option for summer weddings and more!
shoes

In my personal opinion, you only need 2-3 everyday options for summer shoes! My cognac sandals are arguably my most worn shoe of all time! They go with absolutely everything and have never given me blisters which is a major win! I’ve also been eyeing these wrap sandals that are just as versatile. These flip flops are another staple of mine whether they are for everyday wear, the beach, or the pool. I also included a timeless pair of Jack Rogers that can be dressed up if needed! A good pair of casual sneakers is another must, especially for summer travel! I love that these Vejas can be worn with anything from activewear to sundresses. It was not included on this list, but I will give an honorable mention to a pair of nude block heels – these are the shoes I recommend to anyone needing a pair of special event heels and pair perfectly with any wedding guest dresses!
accessories

Last but certainly not least, accessories! Something as simple as a bag, jewelry, or a fun pair of sunglasses can completely transform the outfit! I also think this is the best place to experiment with seasonal trends. I love that statement necklaces are having their moment again – this pearl option just screams summer to me! I’ve also been seeing a ton of oversized aviators around which are so fun for the beach or for daily wear. My tried and true straw tote is back again this year and it was easily one of the best purchases I made last summer. It functions as my purse, farmer’s market tote, beach bag, and everything in between! This year, I purchased the clutch and am so excited to take this along with me to weddings and nights out on upcoming trips!
