Happy New Year, friends! I am so excited to kick off 2024 with another edition of “Recently Read”. I have four books to share with you that I read throughout the end of last year that I absolutely loved! I have so many more books lined up for the month of January and beyond and cannot wait to continue this series throughout the new year. I hope you enjoy!

  • The Paris Apartment: This thriller was one of my favorites! The story follows the main character, Jess, as she travels to Paris to spend some time with her brother. Upon arriving to his apartment building, she notices that her brother is mysteriously missing. The other tenents seem suspicious and leave Jess feeling on edge as she tries to re-trace her brother’s steps throughout the evening and the days leading up to his disappearance. This book is told in alternating perspecitives between Jess and the other residents of the building which builds suspense and keeps you on your toes. I felt this book did a great job of grabbing my attention, and kept me wanting more with every turn of the page. If you love a suspenseful mystery with plot twists and unexpected endings, then you will definitely want to check this out! I really enjoyed Foley’s writing style, and am definitely going to look into other books she has written as well!

  • Twelve Patients: This memoir by Dr. Eric Manheimer recounts impactful memories with twelve different patients at Bellvue Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Manheimer was the former medical director who chronicles the different struggles that doctors face at the city’s largest public hospital. If you have ever watched the show “New Amsterdam” on Netflix, this is the book that the show was based on! I absolutely loved all five seasons of the show, so I knew I wanted to give the book a shot. It was very dense and honestly took me a while to get through, but if you enjoy these types of books I think it is definitely worth the read!
  • A December to Remember: After a dense, nonfiction read, I was definitely in need of something more lighthearted! I picked up this holiday-themed book by Jenny Bayliss at Target during their Black Friday sale and it was the perfect way to kick off the Christmas season! It follows three half-sisters that reunite for the reading of their father’s will. He assigns them a task that sends them on a scavenger hunt through town and his knick-knack shop where the sisters realize how important it is to rely on each other and bring the townspeople together to celebrate the true reason for the season. I really enjoyed this story and found so many helpful messages hidden throughout. I would definitely recommend picking up a copy if you can! It is more “winter themed” than Christmas-y so if you are interested, you don’t have to wait until next year to read it.
  • Love And Other Words: This may have been my favorite book of all! This wholesome story follows Macy and her childhood sweetheart, Elliot. They randomly bump into each other after a rocky end to their teenage relationship leaves them estranged for over a decade. The book is written in alternating timelines which gives you a clue as to what they were like as kids, and how that has influenced their lives as adults. The chance reunion brings memories flooding back and they are forced to face what drove them apart so many years ago. This book was impossible to put down and you truly feel like you are a part of the story. If you read just one of these books in today’s post, I hope it is this one!

Thank you so much for reading!
